Starting Secondary School on the Right Foot
Year 7 is one of the most significant transitions in a child's education. The jump from primary to secondary school brings new teachers, new expectations, more independent working, and a curriculum that moves faster. Many pupils find the adjustment challenging — even those who did well in primary school.
Our Year 7 programme is designed to smooth that transition. We cover the KS3 curriculum in Maths, English, and Science, while also helping pupils develop the study skills and confidence they need to thrive in a secondary environment.
Curriculum-aligned content for each core subject
Targeted support for common Year 7 gaps
Study skills and organisation habits built in
Regular parent updates throughout the year
Curriculum
What's Covered in Year 7
Core KS3 content across all three subjects, paced to match the Year 7 school curriculum with additional transition support built in.
Mathematics
Number and place value, fractions, decimals and percentages, ratio, algebra foundations, geometry, and statistics. Builds directly on KS2 knowledge while introducing secondary-level rigour.
English
Reading comprehension of fiction and non-fiction, analytical and creative writing, grammar and punctuation revision, and vocabulary development. Prepares pupils for the demands of secondary English assessment.
Science
Year 7 Biology, Chemistry, and Physics — cells, particles, forces, and more. We build conceptual understanding alongside practical skills, preparing pupils for the rigour of secondary science.
Transition Skills
Managing homework, note-taking, using a planner, and working independently — practical skills that help pupils adapt to secondary school expectations from the first week.
Study Skills & Organisation
Revision techniques, time management, and self-testing habits introduced early so that pupils develop good learning habits before they are needed for assessments.
Progress Tracking
Regular assessments and written feedback for parents. We track progress against the KS3 curriculum so you always know exactly where your child stands and what comes next.

What Parents Say
Hear from families who have supported their Year 7 children through the secondary transition with Ark Tuition.
"My daughter started secondary school feeling overwhelmed with the jump in Maths. Within two months at Ark, her confidence was completely transformed. The tutors know exactly how to pitch their teaching to the right level — we couldn't be more pleased."
Anjali SharmaParent · Daughter in Year 7
"We were worried about the transition from primary to secondary — my son is quite shy and the bigger school environment was daunting. Ark gave him the academic confidence to settle in quickly. His end-of-year assessments were well above expectation."
Sara PatelParent · Son in Year 7
"The study skills element of the Year 7 programme was something we hadn't expected but it made a real difference. My daughter now manages her homework independently and uses proper revision techniques — skills her school assumed she already had."
Liyana MendisParent · Daughter in Year 7
"Small groups make a genuine difference. My son actually gets to ask questions and isn't just sitting at the back of a big class. The Ilford location is perfect for us and the tutors are warm, professional, and clearly know their subjects inside out."

FAQs
Common Questions — Year 7
Ideally from September of Year 7 — the start of secondary school — so pupils get support right from the transition point. However, tuition is beneficial at any point in the year and we can assess your child and begin at any time.
We offer Maths, English, and Science for Year 7 pupils. Each subject can be booked individually or as a two-subject combined package. All subjects are taught by specialist, qualified tutors.
Many pupils who excelled at primary level find the transition to secondary harder than expected. The curriculum moves faster, the expectations are higher, and the environment is very different. Tuition can help even strong pupils maintain their performance and settle confidently.
We follow the KS3 national curriculum, which all secondary schools use as their framework. If parents share information about their child's school schedule or current topics, we can align our sessions even more closely.
A maximum of 6 students per group. This keeps sessions focused and allows every pupil to ask questions and receive feedback — very different from a standard school class.
Yes. Premium one-to-one tuition is available at £35 per hour, with flexible scheduling Monday to Sunday. Premium sessions can also be combined with Standard group tuition.
